Peoples-Praxis

Our Research

Research or evaluation projects may be able to be performed by matched mentors and mentees, and these might be identified by the mentees themselves or external ‘commissioners’.

Research helps mentees nurture their potential and achieve goals by taking advantage of various opportunities. This can mean securing employment, being awarded scholarships or grants, securing project funding. There is a large gap between master’s and doctoral levels, and even the professional doctorate requires a detailed thesis as a major component.

This suggests that there is a real need for a practice-based intermediate award between the master’s and doctoral levels, which does not fit into the traditional university award structure.

Needs Assessment

To assess the needs for Peoples-Praxis, surveys were performed among alumni of  Peoples-uni and members of Afrehealth. The main results are shown in the graphs below:

Online workshop for open publishing of public health in Africa

There is a need for local research in Africa to help provide an evidence base for policy development, but the researchers lack the opportunity to publish their findings in local journals with results readily available to other researchers or policymakers. Greater academic credit is currently given to researchers who publish in high-impact international than local journals. Most international journals either have high article processing charges or their contents are hidden behind paywalls.
